“In 2020 I played an International basketball tournament at the age of 34. I had tremendous knee pain afterward, so much so, that I subjected myself to an MRI. After consulting with an osteopath and Nick I started a training routine with Healthspan Fitness and Nick. After nearly 2 years of fully remote sessions (via zoom), I have not only regained strength and stability in my knees, but I've also managed to play full seasons and summer international tournaments without injury or pain. Most recently I've had the honor of playing a season with my youngest brother (15 years old) and winning the title, thanks to Nick. I continue to use Nick and get fitter and stronger every month. Needless to say, I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone!”

“I started seeing Nick as I had an awful slipped disc and very limited mobility. My pain meant I was impatient and frustrated at not being able to do the exercise I wanted and Nick was on-hand to help me through. Nick helped me get stronger and get so much mobility back, that I was able to enjoy exercise again. He is patient, encouraging, positive and understanding. He pushes me enough that I’m challenged, but is incredibly aware of my injury, to make sure I’m safe and not causing anymore damage whether I’m training with him or without him. After a year and a half of training with Nick, I’m pleased to say I’m able to move freely and enjoy working out on my own again, as well of course, with Nick! He comes highly recommended from me!”

“I started training with Nick 7 years ago in 2013 having suffered a series on strokes a few years earlier. Initially I needed a knowledgable personal trainer to help me bridge the gap between the stroke survivor fitness classes I was attending and learning to workout safely on my own. Once I had been training with Nick for a few months with started to focus on other goals such getting healthy, regaining balance, losing weight, and improving muscle and stamina. As the years past I found that the fitter/stronger my body felt, the sharper my mind became and (at the age of 70) am currently on track to finish my Ph.D in 2024. Along with the aforementioned goals Nick and I are currently working on building strength in my arthritic knees and protecting my shoulders after suffering from whiplash following a road accident in 2016.Working with Nick has not only provided me with accountability but also instilled the discipline to complete 3 resistance sessions a week plus a swim. Nick varies the programs when necessary to keep me on my toes and insure that we keep progressing. The most challenging aspect has to be getting to grips with my food as in the past I have struggled with dieting in general. With Nicks guidance I have managed to get on top on my sugar, chocolate, biscuit, and dessert intake, which have always been my Achilles heel. The best part of training with Nick is the endorphin rush I get afterwards. The sessions make me feel more awake, less tired during the day, and also result in a better nights sleep.”

“I first started resistance training in 2014 when I signed up to the Brighton Marathon. I didn’t want to injure myself and knew I needed to train properly to get stronger and fitter so I looked into getting a personal trainer. Now my main aim is to continue to find time to exercise when life fills up with busyness. Nick has adapted my gym programs so I can workout at home so I have no excuses. Our programs change to suit my goals and enable me to keep improving and learning new things. I have found a hidden love for understanding how the body works and how to engage different muscle groups which Nick is great at explaining.I have always struggled with working out on my own in a gym as I’m constantly worried that I’m doing things incorrectly. Since working with Nick I’ve built confidence in what I’m doing and have understood that improvement comes over time, not just working out for 2 weeks and you will always feel good (mentally) from going to the gym, even if its not the biggest workout you've ever done.

“In September 2018 I was working way too many hours and not looking after myself. I decided to join my local gym and also signed up for the Brighton Half Marathon and asked Nick to help me with some training techniques. When we first started training together I had a number of goals. I wanted to lose fat and improve my body shape, wanted to build strength, increase flexibility and improve my level of fitness. I also had back pain which I knew was because of poor core strength. Since working with Nick I am happy with my body shape and the back pain is gone. I continue to work on my strength, flexibility and technique, which as he’s let me know is a life long process.Last year I was diagnosed with a critical illness that needed surgery. Recovering from major surgery and getting most of my full range of movement back has been one of my biggest struggles, which I couldn't have done without Nick. He has kept me motivated through every workout until my favourite part...the end! I love the rush of endorphins and feeling exhausted but so pleased with yourself because you have trained hard.If theres one thing I’ve learned its that training isn't enough, what you eat and drink really does make a difference. If you want to make a change you need to take both training and nutrition seriously and Nick has expertise in both.“

My fitness journey started after a conversation with a friend at a party. She had nothing but good things to say about Nick, so I figured I was out of excuses and booked my first session. My biggest motivation was to delay or stop muscle wastage. I don't know much about biology but I know that if I don't keep using my muscles now then I'll regret it in later years. Plus I want to be able to keep up with my kids who keep me on my toes. One of my biggest struggles with working out has always been motivation as it is not something I natural enjoy. Since working with Nick fitness becomes a part of my everyday life! Whether its taking half an hour to do one of Nick’s bespoke home programs on jumping on the bike instead of the car Nick has encouraged me to be active (in one way or another) daily so it doesn’t feel so daunting. Dare I say I even enjoy my workouts now!If anyone is debating whether to take up personal training with Nick my advice would be to just try a session, as the trip to the gym is the hardest part. It's an hour of your life but might be a first step to a healthier life with Nicks guidance.I really enjoy working with Nick and the best thing about the workouts is developing a slight, self-satisfied grin for the rest of the day.”

“I work with and train with Nick. He is excellent. He is focused on getting his clients strong and fit and specialises on getting people out of and keeping them out of pain. With a great deal of experience his knowledge is second to none. When I train with Nick I always learn something new but even better I feel great. If have total confidence in recommending Nick as he will look after you and get you strong.”

“I started training with Nick in August 2020 because of having a back injury which I wanted to improve. Being aware of the importance of movement to help the body heal, I decided that I would like to start with some controlled, supervised training. I chose to invest in personal training, as I felt insecure to join in group sessions, where I was not sure if my personal circumstances would be sufficiently addressed. I immediately felt the benefit of training one to one, as I felt heard and was given a careful yet challenging program to follow. Nick payed a lot of attention that all exercises were carried out with accurate form to prevent any damage to the body and in order to achieve maximum outcome. I enjoy all our sessions and look forward to them every week! My body has become stronger and I have gained more confidence for carrying out everyday activities. Now, I am planning to become even stronger and able to take up other sport activities like running again, which I have enjoyed in the past. If you are also thinking about improving your health and general well-being, I can really recommend training with Nick together with the nutritional guidance he can offer!”

I didn't start taking my fitness seriously until my 30s when I was diagnosed with a rare degenerative nerve condition affecting my feet and lower limbs. I had always been a casual gym goer and loved skiing but realised that I needed to focus my training and get professional advice in order to get the maximum benefit from my workouts. My goal was very simple; to keep on walking as long as I could do without walking sticks and, if possible, carry on skiing. I went through two PTs before I found the 'Goldilocks' one and have now had Nick as my PT for over three years. I have not only achieved my initial goal, but feel stronger than I ever have done: last year I skied two runs that had previously appeared on the World Cup circuit for the first time from top to bottom (obviously much slower than the professionals!), I was terrified but was able to trust my legs and turned with confidence - a massive achievement for me. I am pleased to be able to say that I also still do not need a walking stick.I absolutely believe that I would not be walking (and definitely not skiing!) without Nick's dedication and effort; he regularly liaises with my physio and is constantly pushing me to what I thought was unreachable. He has set me tailored sessions to do in the gym on my own and, during lockdown, at home. PT sessions are always different and fun but very challenging, they keep me focussed and have made me realise that I shouldn't focus on my limitations but instead how far I can push myself. I now feel much more positive and in control about my future...and as soon as lock down ends cannot wait to go skiing again!”

“I started seeing Nick in the Autumn of 2020 when I was having problems with a knee injury. I’m a keen (average) runner and cyclist and I was having trouble recovering from tendon pain on the inside of the knee which had prevented me from doing anything for a couple of months. Physiotherapy wasn’t really working but Nick was able to take me through a programme of careful strengthening exercises which certainly helped a great deal with the recovery. I’ve no doubt it has helped me to get back to a good level of fitness again much more quickly than otherwise. Aside from rehabilitation, I want to build and maintain a better level of core strength and flexibility, to help to avoid injury in the future. Nick is really good at taking you through focussed sets of exercises which you just can’t do in the gym or on your own. Part of it is devising the bespoke programmes themselves but the real benefit comes from being shown how to do things properly, and safely. Nick always has a great understanding of your individual issues and priorities and you never get ‘off the shelf’ programmes.I always feel that I have been challenged far more than if I was just exercising at the gym. Nick is really good at helping with injury rehabilitation but I would have no hesitation recommending him as a PT, no matter what your goals are.”

“I decided to have regular PT sessions with Nick when it dawned on me the changes to my body, strength and fitness that were creeping up on me after I entered my 50s. Despite running and exercising regularly I realised that i wasn’t as strong as I used to be and that doing something about it sooner rather than later may halt the tide of time. I also knew that i was too ill-disciplined to go to a gym alone… I guess when I started my focus and goal was improving my upper body strength. I naively assumed that my trail running was covering all the lower body work. Nick’s initial assessment soon blew that myth away! The beauty of nick’s sessions are the variety of complementary exercises that he devises to improve opposing muscle groups and build overall strength and flexibility for your whole body. It is obvious that Nick has great knowledge about physiology and that whilst he has prepared an individualised programme he can tailor sessions to what he sees on the day. His attention to detail and immediate feedback whilst you are exercising is exactly what I am paying for. I am also impressed by the way he so obviously understands the psychology of exercise and his clients and uses this to encourage and push me way beyond what I would attempt if i were exercising alone. He’s very personable and makes each session as fun as I guess it ever can be! I really enjoy the variety each week and I’ve also been really grateful for his willingness to provide outdoor sessions on the seafront throughout lockdown whatever the weather. My advice for anyone thinking of using Nick is just do it - let someone with knowledge and skill work out what you and your body needs and then just turn up each week and do as you’re told!”

“Having worked with Nick for a number of years I would highly recommend him. He always sets realistic goals but also challenges me to do more and has really helped me be more consistent in my training with a focus on getting technique absolutely spot on. He also keeps really up to date with his knowledge to support training more - for example I have IBS and issues with my knee and he’s done extra research into what would help with those issues and builds them into my training plan. His studio is great and has everything you need for a good workout with the added benefit of having it all to yourself. As well as being a great trainer, Nick is a fantastic person and really listens to what I want/need to get out of training.“

“I started seeing Nick last year after finally deciding to do something about my ongoing back issues I’d been experiencing over the past few years. Before our first session, I was seen by the in-house Chiropractor that works alongside Nick to pinpoint any areas of weakness that could be causing the problems. Nick incorporated these findings into our training plan and it immediately filled me with confidence knowing that we’d be specifically targeting those areas, increasing strength and mobility, and ultimately preventing any further problems with my back.

It’s been a few months now and I feel so much more confident with the troublesome areas where I used to experience pain; having gone through a process of re-training my brain not to fear or compensate when performing those movements. My overall strength has increased, and I especially feel more solid and secure in my core when moving around generally.

I’m looking forward to further increase my fitness and overall strength, safe in the knowledge that I’ve built a solid foundation to work on. It also helps that Nick is a genuinely lovely chap who not only makes the sessions fun and something to look forward to, but also has the knowledge and skill to make you feel as though you’re in safe hands.”
